The sequence of characters or other symbols that you insert at certain places in a text or word processing file to indicate how the file should look when it is displayed or to describe the document's logical structure. The markup indicators are often called tags. See HTML, SGML, SMIL, Tag, XHTML, XML.
Musical Instrument Digital Interface. A standard for recording and playing synthesized sounds on electronic instruments. Acronym for modulator-demodulator. A device that enables a computer to transmit data over telephone lines. Computer information is stored digitally, whereas information transmitted over telephone lines is transmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts between these two forms.
